Love the food at Hugo's. Has always been very good, large portions and very reasonable prices! Strange experience today. Ordered new York strip from menu today, Sunday. Waitress seemed surprised and/or confused that it was on the menu. Went to check with someone, came back and said they had this on Friday. Asked for water with lemon to drink. Served in styrofoam cups with explaination that they were out of glasses. Changed order to sandwiches. Order served with no chips. Asked about chips. Waitress went to check and reported they were out of chips. Perhaps I missed the fact that this was national comedy day! Am sure that this was a fluke and will continue to patronize Hugo's several times each month.

Went here on Saturday, March 30th in the evening with my parents around 8 pm and had a decent dining experience. They've recently upgraded their furniture and painted so restaurant looks a more modern than it had in the past, but it still has that dated atmosphere and appearance to it. My mother and I both ordered the fantail shrimp and baked potatoes with green beans and salad. Food was very good, especially the shrimp. My father ordered a New York strip steak and a baked potato and corn, which he loved. Their steaks are a great deal. My dads steak was huge and it was only $16.95! If you were to order it at a steakhouse, they'd definitely charge a lot more for a steak that size. Definitely a real value. The total bill was only $47.95 for three people and we ordered alcohol which is fairly affordable compared to other restaurants I've been to. Will definitely be back. Our waitress was friendly and attentive as well. The only thing I found weird about the whole experience is how many foods they had listed in the menu, but they had black highlighted out. Also throughout my dining experience, I heard the wait staff would talk back and forth and being out of different items on the menu, which was a little awkward. Definitely will be back in the future. It's nice to have a restaurant in the area that isn't fast food or a pizza shop.

For $7.99 we got the appetizer sampler platter with fried zucchini, breaded mushrooms, onion rings, and cheese sticks. It was a little oily. Two of us tried the chicken and dumpling soup with our entrees-it wasn't overly salty, had lots of chicken, and had good flavor. The portion of gnocchi is huge (the picture doesn't do it justice) and the meatball was juicy and flavorful. The spaghetti with homemade pasta was delicious, and again a heaping portion. If I had any complaint, it would be that the pasta dishes could have used a little bit more sauce. For $16.99 the porterhouse steak came with two sides and a salad. The steak was cooked perfectly, juicy and delicious.

Great food, and great prices. Try the Sunday brunch, if you've never. You won't be disappointed! And if you have tried it, go back again. It's that good! Staff is great also. I took a bus load of kids to Cal, and needed a place to get lunch. Hugo's accommodated us with a well planned buffet lunch within our budget. Highly recommend.

I've passed Hugo's dozens of times in the 25+ years that I've been attending the Brownsville Drive-in. Finally went early enough to have time to stop in for dinner. SOOO DISAPPOINTED IN MYSELF for waiting all that time...
Excellent food, wonderful and friendly owner, very good prices, and yes, my wife and I will leave early enough to eat there every trip to the drive-in from here on out.

We were looking for a place to eat a late lunch when we came upon Hugo's Restaurant. My grandson, husband, and I are so glad that we stopped. The waitstaff was pleasant and helpful. My grandson so enjoyed his burger. He commented that it was so much better than a particular fast food chain. My husband also had the burger. He could tell that the patty was made with fresh meat. I enjoyed the chicken sandwich, done just the way I like it. The owner was there and I shared with him how much we enjoyed our lunch. He encouraged us to return for dinner sometime. We plan on doing just that!

Like others have stated, the decor and atmosphere is a bit dated, and not really what I excepted, but it didn't bother me. It was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. $16.95 gets you a 16 oz t-bone (or porterhouse) salad, and two sides, and, get this, a complimentary beer or glass of wine. Our server was polite, prompt, and didn't bug the crap out of me every two seconds. Will definitely be back.

My very Italian mother-in-law passed away at 85yo, and we needed someone to get an Italian meal together for thirty mostly Italian individuals, for after the funeral. My husband who has never planned a function in his life, stopped at Hugos and met with the Buffet Manager and the owner. He discussed what we wanted and they listened. They listened really well obviously, because after the funeral, we converged upon the restaurant and they were ready for us in a big way. They had us set up in a private room where we had plenty of privacy. They served us chicken parmesan, salad, rolls and butter, iced tea, ice water, the best pies ever, all family style. The food was delicious and the service was great. We needed them to function on our behalf without much direction, and they ran with it. It was perfect.

My mom is from the area and takes me here whenever we're visiting. It's not a fancy place but the food is super good. I've had the pizza and their nachos as well, both were great. This place is such a mom and pop restaurant which I love. Stop by if you are in the area, it will not disappoint.

I've been here many times just for dinner and even wedding receptions. I've never had a bad meal. They just renovated the bar which it desperately needed!

I have been going here since I was a child (nearly 50 years), and it, along with Paci's, was THE restaurant to go to for any occasion. It is still a good "homey" place with good food and great service. I have always liked the pizza, who doesn't? The pork chops have always been a favorite, and the Italian specialties are always tasty. I recommend Hugo's to anyone passing through the area and to any locals who have not visited in a while. After living around the world, it is nice to come back home and still find a good wholesome old-fashioned meal.

Best Overall Dining experience for the price
We are local farmers of Brownsville PA. We usually do not dine that much since we prepare our own produce and other meals, but we were introduced to a local family restaurant called Hugo's Restaraunt, by a relatives in town.

Our experience was pleasant, and they had a variety of food selection at low cost. My wife and I ordered pizza, and a small antipasta salad. The pizza doe seemed to be made fresh and was outstanding. It was crisp, but not burnt. Just the way we like it! The salad was huge! We could not believe that it was only a small because they serve a large, and we ended up not eating all and taking it home. The salad had fresh hard salami, cheeses, pepperoni, and every kind of vegetables. The salad was so big it could have been enough for all of us to eat as a meal.
